“I delegate authority & allow others the freedom to determine how to reach co-created desired results. “
One of the critical success factors in building great companies and businesses is the ability of leaders (both in the hierarchy and without titles, formal and informal) to delegate effectively. In my opinion, great companies are built on all their contributors’ strengths, differentiations, marketing and creativity. And even more importantly, people build them and make them great. They chose so because the environment supports and value difference in opinions, value creation and supports creativity.
Some essential principles of delegation
First, delegation starts with hiring the right people to do the right things. Your life will be miserable if you get it all wrong about the hiring process.
I like telling people the truth, no matter how strong a statement it will be. Harsh to comprehend for some. I hope you will avoid these critical issues to grow your business.
Second, it is a Two Way interaction process. Time must be spent on development to obtain results. Human dimensions and factors determine success. You certainly heard that; people will make it or break it. So, if all of this is important to your business, it will be beneficial to you to really take your time, plan your HR development, develop the winning strategy to attract, train and retain quality people and truly be there, available to them, playing the crucial role in their professional development.
Third, delegation is not simply out-tasking. More than anything, effective delegation is shared responsibility and joint ownership that produce higher commitment, involvement, and results.
Fourth, it is an extension & multiplier of you as an entrepreneur, not your unsuccessful clone and/or replica. What I mean by this is the realisation that if you don’t delegate or outsource and, by doing so, reduce your involvement, your business will never grow to reach its full potential. It will be only capable and positioned to the extent of how skilled you are as the owner and how strong are your funding resources. People, team workers, employees etc, will add their uniqueness to the mix; if structured, things will work for your business.
Another critical distinction
Reduced involvement does not mean no involvement at all.
So having the right people and then delegating to them…simple recipe for solving numerous issues and the only way to have a better business and more in life.
